The project was commissioned privately for the Malaysian Government. It is a 310 bed tertiary multi speciality, self-contained Hospital on a Greenfield site. The Design Concept was to break the building mass into 4 blocks, strung together lineally owing to the narrow site constraints. The 4 blocks are separated by large landscaped atria and are arranged to permit light to infiltrate through the building. Curving corridors breakdown the internal spaces and are arranged around light wells which bring light down to interior spaces. The ground floor has meandering paths through retail areas designed in recognition that the Hospital community functions as a small city. Above the ground floor the Hospital specialist departments are spread over 3 levels. On top of these are located 3 levels of clinical ward and ICU/CCU facilities.
